bad art!The Making of...
(Step 1)

So how is a comic book created? Sure, there's many ways, but here's Christopher Parr's journey behind making page 3 of the Last Men Preview.

"This scene with Jay Harryhausen was in my head for years. A guy walks up to a hot dog stand and goofs on the clerk. Jay then turns the corner and runs into Shepherd."

"I didn't have a name for Jay, or his location (other than 'Someplace in Texas')."

"I know many guys like Jay. I still do. He's the type of guy that still loves sci-fi and talks your ear off for hours about Kubrick. To him, having a superpower would be cool. He wouldn't be cynical about it -- it'd be a nifty trick."

"A year or so ago, I began reading Harry Knowles' Ain't It Cool News website. To me, Harry totally fit the role. So when I sketched out a few ideas for the preview, I labeled the character "Harry" and placed the setting in Austin, TX. Sure, there isn't a hot dog stand like this in the real Austin, but in the comic book world of Last Men, there is."

"So here's my initial idea with some rough dialogue. Very basic. The hot dog stand was originally called 'Dawg Hut.'"
